Did you know that certain deck projects need an engineer’s involvement in the City of Edmonton?
The City of Edmonton specifies that decks above a certain height or size, or with certain uses will need a structural engineer to be involved to have your deck building permit approved. Luckily, it’s easy to determine which deck projects are considered more complex using the Uncovered Deck Design Guide published by the City of Edmonton.
We’ve gone through the document and included a short list of what is described in the published Uncovered Deck Design Guide. The following complex deck projects need engineering involvement:
- Large decks (592 sq ft or larger)
- Decks above 6′ (1.8m) tall
- Decks with large loads (hot tubs, built-in fireplace or barbeque)
- Covered decks
- Decks on or near top of bank
